David O. Russell and Bradley Cooper Might Reunite for 'American Sniper' Sep 11th 2012, 13:00 When Bradley Cooper stepped up to replace Mark Wahlberg in David O. Russell‘s Silver Linings Playbook, it seems he took over for the former Fighter star in more ways than one. Where Russell once spoke excitedly of his plans with Wahlberg, these days it’s Cooper who apparently serves as his muse. Although Silver Linings Playbook hasn’t hit theaters yet, the pair are clearly eager to keep a good thing going. Russell cast Cooper in the untitled Abscam sting movie (formerly titled American Bullshit) several months back, and now the duo are eyeing another reunion in the Navy SEAL biopic American Sniper. More after the jump. Cooper acquired the rights to Chris Kyle‘s autobiography earlier this year, with plans to produce and possibly star. Kyle’s claim to fame is his legendary military career — according to his book, he has the most recorded kills of any sniper in American history. As of May, the project was set up at Warner Bros. with Jason Dean Hall (Spread) attached to write the script. Russell revealed his possible involvement in an interview with THR, saying only that he and Cooper had “discussed” American Sniper. There’s no guarantee at this point that Russell will actually direct, especially given that Russell’s attached to a new project seemingly every month. But whether or not Russell really winds up directing Cooper in American Sniper, he’s looking forward to teaming with his new pal again soon. The pair are set to shoot the Abscam movie in February with Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner “somewhere on the East Coast.” ”I’m really excited to work with him again,” Russell said. “He is like an athlete who wants to burst out of the blocks and wants to stretch in all these new ways.” Cooper’s come a long way since he broke out as the preppy asshole of Wedding Crashers and The Hangover. The past couple of years have seen him involved in prestige projects like Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines, Susanne Bier’s Serena, and of course his work with Russell. If early reviews of Silver Linings Playbook can be trusted, anything that gets Cooper and Russell back together can only be a good thing.   Jeremy Renner in Talks To Replace Christian Bale in David O.
