Want to watch some set video from Thor: The Dark World? Is Chris Evans excited for Captain America: The Winter Soldier? What sunny beaches will Iron Man 3 soon be shooting on? How did The Avengers help one girl eat her lunch? What does Mother Russia look like in Kick-Ass 2? Is Hayley Atwell upset about her Avengers scene being cut? Read about all this and more in today’s Superhero Bits.

Splash News (via Superhero Hype) has this cool set footage from Thor: The Dark World.

The Huffington Post has a hilarious interview with Chris Evans that, eventually, gets around to talking about Captain America: The Winter Soldier. There’s more Winter Soldier (with video) on Page 2:

Well, I wasn’t happy in the first “Cap’” because — well, not that I wasn’t happy. I was just nervous, you know what I mean? I had taken a role that I was just nervous about. And it was a lifestyle change, and there were a lot of factors on the first “Cap’.” I was just nervous, man…. so now, it’s kind of like, “All right, well, let’s go try and make this one even better.” I feel comfortable in the role. I love Marvel and I’m actually, dare I say … excited.

Stan Lee is the latest to throw his hat into the argument about the power of “F**k You.”

Final Wave of Fantastic Fest Programming Includes 'Wake in Fright,' 'Antiviral,' and 'Berberian Sound Studio'
Sep 12th 2012, 19:29

Fantastic Fest has announced its final wave of programming for the 2012 lineup, with the festival set to begin in just over a week. The big inclusions in this wave are Brandon Cronenberg‘s Antiviral, which is the feature debut from David Cronenberg’s son; Berberian Sound Studio, which has been getting raves for Toby Jones‘ portrayal of a sound technician who experiences crazy stuff while working on an Italian horror film; and Wake in Fright, the Australian thriller that wowed audiences at Cannes in 1971 but never got a proper US release. I’ve got an import DVD of this one, and can say that it definitely earns its reputation as an effective knife-twisting thriller. Drafthouse Films will be releasing Wake in Fright properly later this year, but for now this is a good chance to catch it on the big screen.

All the film details are below. Fantastic Fest runs September 20-27 in Austin, TX, and more details about the programming and schedule can be found at the official website.

Guillermo Del Toro's 'Pacific Rim' Will Be Converted To 3D
Sep 12th 2012, 19:18

Guillermo Del Toro didn’t want it, but he’s not signing the checks. Warner Bros. has announced that Pacific Rim, the director’s big budget robots vs. monsters sci-fi action adventure scheduled for release July 12, will be converted to 3D. It’ll also be released in 2D. Read more after the jump.

Variety first wrote about the conversion, which they say was a corporate decision and not a creative one.

Del Toro has never released a 3D film but you can be sure he’ll take great care with the conversion, even if it wasn’t ultimately his choice. That said, I’ll be searching “Pacific Rim 2D” on Fandango next Summer. What about you?

Joss Whedon's 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' TV Series Will Feature All New Characters
Sep 12th 2012, 18:43

While S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn’t been the focus of any of the Marvel movies per se, we’ve gotten to know the group pretty well by this point. Indeed, the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division is the thread that ties the entire Marvel cinematic universe together, thanks to the strenuous post-credits recruiting efforts of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). And this summer’s Avengers has the biggest S.H.I.E.L.D. presence yet, with Clark Gregg‘s Agent Coulson grabbing some of the movie’s funniest lines and Cobie Smulders‘ Maria Hill making her eye-catching debut.

Now, as the intelligence agency heads to the small screen, we’re poised to learn more about the team than ever. But don’t expect to get the dish on Fury’s penchant for leather dusters or Coulson’s trading card hobby. Instead, writer/director Joss Whedon says, ABC’s S.H.I.E.L.D. will introduce audiences to a whole new cast of characters. Read more after the jump.

MTV’s Josh Horowitz got the details in an interview with Whedon at the Toronto Film Festival, where the filmmaker was promoting Much Ado About Nothing. Whedon said he’d gotten “very far” in the creating the show, having already pitched it to the network “with a full framework, a full cast.” Said cast likely won’t be anyone we’ve already met, however. Whedon framed the decision as a conscious attempt to help S.H.I.E.L.D. stand alone:

It’s new characters. It needs to be its own thing. It needs to be adjacent [to the movies]. You don’t want to do a show where you’re constantly going, ‘Iron Man just left, but he was totally here a minute ago.’ You want them to go off on their own thing, and say, well, what has S.H.I.E.L.D. got that the heroes don’t have? And part of that for me is, they’re not superheroes, but they live in that universe. That makes them a little bit — even though they’re a big organization — underdogs, and so that’s really interesting to me.

Whedon did not say whether the TV project would feature S.H.I.E.L.D. characters from the comics who’ve not yet appeared in the movies, or whether all of the characters would be created specifically for the show. (Not that the distinction will matter much to Marvel movie fans who don’t follow the comics.) In any case, it seems like a smart way to establish S.H.I.E.L.D. as a story worth telling in its own right, rather than as a minor sideshow to the studio’s higher-wattage superhero films.

Amber Portwood Speaks Out From Prison: "I Miss Leah A Lot"
Sep 12th 2012, 18:21

amber_portwood

Teen Mom star Amber Portwood insists that her first priority is sobriety and her 3-year-old daughter Leah. The troubled reality star issued a statement from prison to coincide with the reunion special that aired Tuesday night on MTV with Dr. Drew.

“Right now I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing with my life,” Amber stated. “I guess I just got lost. I went to jail because I had an addiction to opiates. You live and you learn. and that’s real. It’s time for me to stop partying and realize that even though I’m 21, I’m not a normal 21-year-old — I’m a mother. Which means I have to grow up quicker and start acting like a mother.”

Following is Amber’s statement in its entirety:

“I miss Leah a lot. She’s a little mini-me. I see pictures of her and I think about where I went wrong and how I can fix it so she can be proud of me.

As for Gary, I know that he’s a good dad. I hope he finds happiness, even if it’s not with me. I know we probably won’t get back together. He has too many insecurities when it comes to our relationship but I hope that one day we can have a good relationship between us and Leah.

Right now my No. 1 priority in life is dedicating my life to being sober, to being a sober person. And to show my daughter that people make mistakes but you can always come back. If Leah learns anything from me she should see how becoming a teen mom can change you. How everything is postponed.

I made the show for a reason…some decisions change your whole life. If you don’t want to take responsibility and use protection, then don’t have sex. One night can change your whole life into a sad story.

I hope people look at my story and say, ‘That’s not the way I want to go.’ I know everybody looks at me as a mean person who cusses and hits people, but that’s not me. That’s just what I had to go through to grow up and learn.

I want to show everybody that I can do it and I can start living a straight life and getting my family back in order.”

What do you think of Leah’s statement from prison?

Andrew Dominik's 'Killing Them Softly' Pushed Back to Late November
Sep 12th 2012, 18:01

Briefly: With Lawless not likely to do much for The Weinstein Company in the Oscar race, the company is relying upon Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master and Andrew Dominik‘s Killing Them Softly to do much of the heavy listing when it comes to earning awards and accolades. And while The Master starts to hit theaters this weekend, Dominik’s movie was set for a late October debut. No longer, as TWC has moved the film to November 19.

The film features Brad Pitt as a mob enforcer with a unique approach to his work; he’s on the trail of Scoot McNairy and Ben Mendelsohn, who robbed a high-stakes poker game. Taking the movie out of October means it doesn’t have to open against Paranormal Activity 4 and Alex Cross, and putting it into the November slot means the only competition is the Joh Cusack/Nic Cage serial killer movie Frozen Ground.

Deadline spoke to Harvey Weinstein, who said, “In this industry it is a very rare event to look at a weekend where your movie could open as the only wide release picture. November 30th will allow us to bring Killing Them Softly to a wide audience without competition. Additionally, the critical response to the movie has been very favorable especially on the amazing performances and November 30th positions us better in the Awards season calendar."

Cool Stuff: Mark Englert's Mondo Debut Is 'Back To The Future'
Sep 12th 2012, 18:14

When Mondo revealed they’d be doing Back to the Future posters, it was enough to get even the casual fan excited. But that was in March. They’ve finally revealed the second poster in the series and it’s by Mark Englert, a name that’s familiar to Alien or Breaking Bad fans but a newcomer to the Mondo roster. It’s of one of the iconic scenes in the film, the first time the DeLorean jumps to 1955 but – what makes it really special – is that its glow in the dark element shows exactly that. And then the variant is even more geeky. Check out the posters after the jump.

The regular is a 12″x36″ screen print with glow in the dark ink in an edition of 375. It’ll cost $50.
